Julie & Steven | Wedding Part II | Le Sereno, St. Barthelemy FWI

I’m back and I am well aware that it has been something like a month since I last blogged. A new baby will do that to ya! But I am super excited about this post as well as future posts and possible announcements about potential speaking engagements AND an upcoming workshop we are coordinating! So stay tuned for more details and website.

So this July we had the pleasure of traveling to St. Barthelemy, in the French West Indies, for an intimate Caribbean wedding at Le Sereno. We last left off with Julie and Steven a month ago at their Cambridge City Hall civil ceremony. Our travels with them took us to the absolutely breathtaking island of St. Barths! This is NOT your typical Caribbean island. Just different. An all French island, including the culture, cuisine, locals, tourists, infrastructure, etc.. just so unique from what I have experienced before in the Caribbean.

The day before the wedding we checked out the resort to get a good feeling of where we would ideally photograph the bride and groom. An obvious but important step for any photographer working in an unfamiliar venue. Also, shooting with Julie a month prior I learned of her modest shyness in front of the camera. I then knew that come wedding day, these nerves would surely be heightened. But let’s face it, 99% of us out there are not Hollywood camera ready. So as a photographer you need to be prepared, ready for the unexpected, and most of all, Quick, and this day was no exception. We had budgeted an hour and a half to shoot with Julie and Steve prior to their ceremony, but like any well respected wedding, as I looked at my watch, our time to shoot dwindled down to 30 minutes. Hey, you gotta roll with the punches.

And so away we went. I knew the exact places to go, quick angles to shoot etc. ahead of time. And true to my style I offered up very little direction even with the short timeframe we had now been allotted. I don’t like to force pictures, my goal is to capture the bride and grooms personality as it unfolds in front of me. And in a really short amount of time I was happy to walk away with these shots given the circumstances. Here are some of my favorites from our 30 minute shoot.

I must mention this resort, Le Sereno, truly had 5 star service like I have never seen before. Anywhere! Not only were each guest treated like they owned the resort, but the same treatment was provided to Maria and I. Really fantastic and made my day of shooting there that much more spectacular.

We photographed Julie and Steven’s civil wedding ceremony at Cambridge City Hall last Thursday. Just a few days before they left for St. Barthelemy in the Caribbean where we will meet up with them again to capture their destination wedding at Le Sereno. Can’t wait…SEE YOU SOON!!!

Andrea & Greg | Wedding | Boston Harbor Hotel

When I walked outside of the hotel just after the bride had finished getting ready, I saw the car everyone was talking about. The grooms 1967 Lincoln Continental that he bought in California and drove across country. This car made a statement and made for some great pics to! I knew right then that this wedding was going to be FUN!

Andrea had the makings of an amazing wedding from the start. She began with her truly wonderful wedding planner Linnea Tangorra of Tangorra Wedding Planning. She then made the easy selection of the Boston Harbor Hotel |Wharf Room | as her venue of choice. Add John from Blue Guava to masterfully create the floral design, cool lighting from Boston Uplights, the 1967 Lincoln, Super Cool Bride and Groom, and whamm… a wedding photographer’s dream! Oh and don’t forget to notice the Brides Pug, Pirates, and Bobble Heads!

Boston Public Library | Published Wedding | The Knot Boston

The current issue of The Knot | Fall/Winter 2010 | is featuring a Boston Public Library wedding we shot last year! Cudos to Kristen Weiss of I Thee Wed (Deborah & Jay’s wedding consultant), it was a pleasure working with her as always! The design of the wedding was styled so as to not overtake the grandeur of the venue, but to let it stand out. We loved the fact that the green reading lamps were a key feature at dinner! Also Suzanne B. Lowell Lighting Design came in and added the right touch of light to accent the Library’s magnificient details but not to overpower the look and feel of the rooms.

Baby Bronson | Welcome

Our best friends had their second child a few days ago and we stopped by the hospital to meet the newest addition. Bronson weighed just under 9lbs and is one handsome little man. His sister, Catalina, whom has already been featured on the blog several times, is shown here attempting to give the little guy his pacifier. Congrats Lauren, Oscar, and Catalina!!! We can’t wait until he is best friends with Mateo!

Photographing my little soon to be meteorite is starting to become a ton of fun. He is now just coming out of his baby shell so to say. Lots of smiles and giggles and more and more photo ops start occuring each day. The first few months for photographing newborns is really limited to their little hands and feet, and maybe the occasional smile that you need to really be ready for. But slowly he is awakening more and more and it is just such a wonderful thing to experience (and capture!)!!!

And for all of you Boston Baby Photographers out there… Tubby time last night was shot on a Canon 5dMkII, Jpeg, Incandescent Light, 50mm at about f/2.0 and a 1/160th shutter speed.

Robin Athey | Updated Headshots | Boston, MA

There is nothing more important than good headshots for your website and marketing materials. Robin, the founder and president of Integral Growth, LLC, a consulting and research firm based in Boston, came to us today for this very need. She was looking for a few formal headshots, as well as some casual, more natural/outdoor type shots. We photographed for about an hour in home/studio and another hour outdoors.

Two key elements lent a hand to the success of todays shoot. Fantastic professional makeup by Dani Wagener (Best of Boston 2007 & 2008) and my trusty assistant, and lovely wife :-) Maria. Dani did an incredible job and Robin simply raved about working with her today! But having an on-site stylist is so clutch as well. Maria constantly adjusts hair and clothing, makes suggestions, and adds such a helping hand that I am nearly composing and watching my exposures.

Today’s photos were shot with the Canon 100mm f/2.0 lens and my Canon 5DII. I used a gold reflector to add some fill light but No artficial lighting was used for this shoot.

Pirates on Boston Harbor | Wedding | Greatest Bridal Party Ever!

Ok, just kidding..really not the bridal party. But I definitely had one of the most fun brides ever today! When most brides would shy away from such a picture, Andrea saw these sultry buccaneers coming and immediately called them over for a shot. Lauren & Dan | Wedding | The Barn at Gibbet Hill

This April I photographed a gorgeous wedding at The Barn at Gibbet Hill for my neighbor’s daughter, Lauren. Lauren got ready just one house down from mine, and the church, St. Patrick Parish in Watertown, also just down the street. This sure made the first part of my day a wedding photographer’s dream! We teamed up with photographer Helen Makadia, whose new talent I have just recently discovered! Maria and I were so excited to work with her and we hope to see her at many more of our weddings. Thank you Helen for your excellent second shooting!
